ĒRIKS KIRŠFELDS (Latvia)
Ēriks Kiršfelds is one of the best cello virtuosos in Latvia. He graduated from Emils Darzins College of Music in Riga and the Latvian Academy of Music, where his teachers were the famous Latvian professors Maris Villeruss and Eleonora Testeleca. He also studied with Arto Noras in Helsinki and Ivan Monighetti in Basel.
Kiršfelds has been a member of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Lappeenranta City Orchestra and Latvian Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. As a soloist he has often appeared with the chamber orchestra Kremerata Baltica, Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, chamber orchestra “Sinfonietta Riga”, Professional Symphonic Band Riga and Liepaja Symphony Amber Sound Orchestra. Eriks Kirsfelds has collaborated with such prominent conductors as Andris Poga, Andres Mustonen, Lior Shambadal and others.
Currently Kiršfelds is the principal cello of the Liepaja Symphony Amber Sound Orchestra, a faculty member of the Chamber Ensemble and Accompaniment Department of the Latvian Academy of Music as well as Jurmala Secondary Music School. He has an active performance schedule as a soloist and a chamber musician and is a member of Spikeri String Quartet. In 2009 he received the Latvian Great Music Award for Outstanding Ensemble Work.
Most of all Eriks Kiršfelds enjoys performing chamber music. He has recorded numerous programmes for the Latvian Radio.
